Our Vision
UnitedHealth Group is committed to advancing responsible environmental and social practices across our supply chain. This commitment stems from our four sustainability priorities: helping to build a modern, high-performing health system; healthy environment; our people and culture; and responsible business practices. These priorities align with our five growth pillars — value-based care, health benefits, health technology, health financial services and pharmacy services — representing the ways we can seek to help every person who interacts with the health care system every day.
Our Sustainable Procurement program aims to advance these priorities by partnering with our suppliers to minimize risk and strengthen the resilience of our supply chain, promote human rights and accelerate our path to net-zero. Our program supports the economic development of underserved communities by ensuring diversity is an integral component of our supply chain. Our approach reflects our uncompromising commitment to integrity and our suppliers are expected to comply with all applicable laws and regulations while operating under the highest ethical standards.
Together we can utilize our shared reach, resources and resolve to work toward the realization of our mission to help people live healthier lives and help make the health system work better for everyone. Please visit sustainability.uhg.com for details on our sustainability priorities and progress.
Our Expectations
UnitedHealth Group’s Supplier Compliance program webpage provides education and resources for our suppliers related to our compliance policies and procedures – including our Supplier Code of Conduct (the “Code”). The Code sets forth the base expectations and requirements for all suppliers doing business with UnitedHealth Group, which includes our supplier environmental, social and governance (ESG) expectations. The Code is incorporated by reference in our standard supplier contracts with additional ESG-related requirements set forth in supplier contracts where appropriate.
We invite our suppliers to explore the individual elements of our Sustainable Procurement program below for resources and frequently asked questions related to our program approach, how suppliers can comply with the ESG expectations and requirements set forth in the Code and how we evaluate the ESG performance of our suppliers.
Our Approach
"Our purpose-driven approach to supply chain management leverages the expertise of supply partners to help deliver extraordinary results to our customers while improving environmental and social outcomes in the communities we serve."
