In two announcements recently made by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), OptumServe, the federal government health services business unit of Optum, was selected to offer new services to veterans in 2019, and has secured major contracts to provide disability exams for the VA.
- Beginning in 2019, OptumServe will provide telephone lifestyle coaching services (TLC) to eligible veterans receiving care from the VA at 20 medical centers and their corresponding community based outpatient clinics. The virtual coaching will help veterans maintain a healthy diet, increase their physical activity, manage their weight and stress, and limit alcohol use. A qualified lifestyle coach will provide scheduled calls to veterans enrolled in the program. Participants will also be able to call the coaching lines outside of scheduled appointments.
- OptumServe's Logistics Health, Inc. (LHI), was one of the companies awarded three U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) contracts on Nov. 20 to provide medical disability examinations to veterans and separating service members in Regions 1, 2 and 3, representing 39 states through the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA). LHI has been supporting the VA since 2011 through previous versions of the contract.
"OptumServe is honored for the opportunity to continue and expand our health services to our nation's veterans who have sacrificed so much for our nation," said Patty Horoho, CEO of OptumServe.
Optum and OptumServe have a long history of serving military service members, veterans and their families. OptumServe, through LHI, recently opened a clinic in New York City to provide health evaluations, monitoring exams, diagnostic services and treatment for survivors of the 9/11 attacks residing within the metropolitan area as part of the World Trade Center Health Program.
