From Graduation to a Happy First Birthday – Community Health Workers and Columbus Moms

March 15, 2017

Columbus Public Health's CelebrateOne program recognized the first full-year cohort of 24 Community Health Workers with a holiday and graduation celebration last December. Columbus Public Health and the CelebrateOne program connect local pregnant women, mothers, newborns and their families with health and social support resources in an effort to decrease the infant mortality rate in the Columbus area. According to America's Health Rankings® Health of Women and Children Report, Ohio's infant mortality rate ranks 44th nationwide.

Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther participated in the graduation and offered encouragement to the new health care workers, noting "this is a great achievement, but it is only just the start. We know there is still a lot of work to do to reach our goal of reducing infant mortality and cutting racial disparities. And we know this program will help us reach thousands more residents over the next two years."
