Today at our annual Investor Conference, UnitedHealth Group leaders provided an update on the company’s performance and discussed how the company is working to improve the health system, advance health care quality, experiences and outcomes for people, and reduce the total cost of health care.
In addition, CEO Andrew Witty spoke about the importance of sustainability and made two announcements aimed at strengthening our commitment to environmental health and minimizing our impact on climate change.
We Are Committed To:
“As a significant part of the economy, health care companies have an obligation to do our part. We know we can do more to help build a more sustainable health system, and we are committed to minimizing our impact on the environment.”
– Andrew Witty, Chief Executive Officer, UnitedHealth Group
The latest announcements are a part of UnitedHealth Group’s multi-dimensional approach to minimizing our environmental impact.
In September, CEO Andrew Witty agreed to co-chair the National Academy of Medicine’s Climate Collaborative, a public-private partnership seeking to meaningfully reduce the carbon footprint of the U.S. health care system, which represents 8.5% of U.S. emissions.
As a company, we are working to reduce our carbon emissions through business and operational innovations, like sustainable packaging to ship prescriptions, which will eliminate 5 million pounds of waste each year.
UnitedHealth Group has long recognized the environment is a key part of what makes the communities in which we live and work sustainable, viable and healthy, and we are committed to doing our part to minimize our impact.
